What to Expect from Your Free KwikGlaze Measure Visit
Honest walkthrough of what happens, from booking the visit, to what we look for on site, to how soon we install after. Sourced from Tony Tran's actual customer SMS records.
Real customer questions this guide answers
- “Can you send someone for a free measure and quote?”
- “Hi can you come out today to do a proper measure?”
- “Does this need to be booked many weeks in advance?”
- “Also if I went ahead with it how long will it take?”
- “Will I get an emailed quote or will someone come out?”
Asked verbatim by real Sydney customers. 24% of all KwikGlaze customer questions are about the measure-and-quote process - second-most-common topic after pricing.
The 30-second answer
The measure visit is free, no deposit required to book it. We come to you, take exact dimensions, photograph the install context, and either quote on the spot OR send the fixed-price quote within 24 hours. The deposit (50%) only kicks in after you accept the quote and want manufacturing to start.
Standard timeline from first contact:
- Day 0: phone or SMS rough quote based on dimensions you provide
- Day 1-3: free in-home measure visit booked
- Day 1-3 (after measure): fixed-price quote sent
- Day 4-7: customer accepts quote, 50% deposit, manufacturing begins
- Day 7-14: install in single visit
For same-day or next-day measure visits, possible when we're already in your area. Otherwise standard booking is 3-5 days ahead, occasionally further afield (Hills District / Northern Beaches / Central Coast) up to 7-10 days because we batch those jobs into single trips.
What we look for at the measure visit
Tony's actual diagnostic checklist, the questions we ask before quoting:
- Wall plumbness, Federation/Edwardian/pre-1980s brick is often 5-15mm out of plumb. We measure top + bottom + check with a level. Determines whether off-the-shelf frameless will fit, or if we need custom-templating (adds 5-7 days).
- Existing screen, if there's an old shower screen to remove + dispose, we factor that into the quote. No surcharge; included.
- Tile finish height + edges, tells us how high we can run the screen and where the wall channel sits.
- Plumbing fixtures, taps, shower head location matter for door swing direction + hardware positioning.
- Floor plumbness, out-of-level shower base changes spigot mount strategy for pool fences.
- Coastal proximity, within 3km of beach (Cromer, Manly, Avalon, Bondi) we default to marine-grade 316 stainless hardware at no surcharge.
Mid-renovation? Not a problem
Most KwikGlaze shower screen customers contact us mid-renovation - tiler hasn't finished, or plumber still running pipes. The standard play:
- Tony's line: “Let us know when tiling/plumbing/bathtub is installed and we'll book in a measure.”
- We don't measure rough-in (the dimensions change post-tile). We measure the finished wall geometry.
- You can text us when the tiler finishes, even one day ahead is enough notice if we can fit you in.
How soon can KwikGlaze install after measure?
Tony's actual SMS-record timelines depend on configuration complexity:
- Standard frameless / semi-frameless shower screen - 3-4 days to manufacture after deposit. Then 2-3 days for install in next-available slot. Total measure-to-install: 7-10 days typical.
- Premium configurations (custom finishes, 12mm low-iron glass, custom-templated for Federation walls) - 1-1.5 weeks to manufacture. Total: 10-14 days.
- Stair glass / balustrades, 2 weeks to manufacture (multiple panels, structural calculations).
- Pool fence retrofits, 1-1.5 weeks to manufacture + council inspection booking 5-7 days post-install. Total measure-to-compliance-cert: 3 weeks typical.
Lead time starts from deposit received, not from quote acceptance. If you're tight on a deadline (selling home, finishing reno before holidays), tell us at the measure visit, we'll prioritise the manufacturing slot.
What if you're tight on time
Real customer scenarios from KwikGlaze SMS records, and how we handle them:
- “We need it done before Christmas” , we'd plan back from the deadline. Standard 7-day measure- to-install timeline means we need the deposit by ~3 weeks before. Earlier is better.
- “The property is going to market next month” , pre-sale compliance docs included with all installs. For pool fence retrofits, allow 3 weeks for inspection sign-off.
- “Settlement is in 2 weeks” - standard frameless shower screens fit this; pool fence retrofits don't unless we expedite manufacturing (sometimes possible, ask).
- “We're flying interstate next week” , we coordinate with tenants/property managers for access if you can't be there.
Common questions about the measure visit
Do I need to pay anything to book the measure?+
No, measure visits are free, no deposit required to book. We come to you, take exact measurements, photograph the install context, and quote on the spot OR send the fixed-price quote within 24 hours. Deposit (50%) is only required after you accept the quote and want manufacturing to start. Standard line we use with customers: "If you'd like to proceed, just let me know and we can book you in for a formal measurement to get things started."
What do I need to have ready before the measure visit?+
For shower screens: ideally tiling and plumbing should be done. We measure the actual finished wall geometry, not the rough-in. If you're mid-renovation, let us know your timeline and we'll book the measure for after the tiler finishes. For pool fences and balustrades: just clear access to the perimeter is enough; we work around landscaping where possible. We typically ask up front: "which area are you in? Is there an existing shower screen? Do you have any pictures?"
Can the measurer come today or tomorrow?+
Often yes, depends on whether we're heading your area already. Tony's actual line when scheduling tight: "Hey, are you available Wednesday? We are in the area." If you're within ~25km of our Greenacre depot we can usually do same-day or next-day measure visits. Further afield (Hills District, Northern Beaches, Central Coast) we batch jobs into single trips, so add 3-5 days lead time.
What happens AFTER the measure?+
Standard sequence: (1) we send the fixed-price quote within 24 hours of measure visit, (2) you accept the quote, (3) 50% deposit invoice goes out, actual SMS line: "after measure, we will send you deposit invoice to start manufacturing, takes 3-4 days then we can install in next 2-3 days available". So: 3-4 days to manufacture standard configurations, 1-1.5 weeks for premium / non-standard sizes, 2 weeks for stair glass or balustrades. Install is a single visit (2-3 hours typical for shower screens, 4-8 hours for pool fences).
What if I'm mid-renovation and not ready yet?+
No problem. Tony's line: "Let us know when tiling is done and we'll book in a measure." We don't expect customers to be perfectly ready when first contacting us, most aren't. We'll book provisionally and confirm closer to the date, OR mark you for follow-up at the right milestone (e.g., "text us when the tiler finishes").
Will the price change after the measure?+
Rough quote we send via phone/SMS based on customer-supplied dimensions is a ballpark. Exact price locks in at measure. The fixed quote rarely changes after measure, exceptions: (a) actual dimensions on-site materially differ from what was described, (b) site reveals custom-templating need (Federation/Edwardian walls 8mm+ out of plumb), (c) plumbing relocation needed for shower position change. We explain ANY change before any work. Quote validity: 30 days from issue.
